How to pass your practical driving test
You can read a full guide to passing your test on our blog page.
For many the biggest problem is that their driving instructor has not given them enough practice in all areas.
Private driving lesson practice
Some choose to have private practice which is acceptable.
The role of private practice is just to observe the student, parents & partners should never interfere with the way that the student has been taught by their instructor.
All driving instructors know the standard that is required by the DVSA driving examiners.
Taking the practical test when not ready
Occasionally we get pupils that want to try the test, just in-case they may fluke a pass.
Rest assured, you won’t be able to fluke your result – with not enough practice of the syllabus required to learn in order to pass your driving test.
The Practical Driving Test
Your driving test will last approximately 40 mins.
During your assessment you will cover various road and traffic conditions like dual carriageways, roundabouts, built up areas, slow moving traffic, an emergency stop etc.
1 Reversing exercise
Drive forwards into a bay
Reverse into a bay
Reverse parallel park
Stop on the right
Independent driving that will last approximately 20 minutes following either a Satnav or road signs.
Do not worry if you go the wrong way – as, long as you are driving safely the examiner will simply put you back on track or change the test route.
What you need to pass
The pass mark is 15 or less driving faults.
A serious or dangerous mark would result in you failing your driving test.
The Result
At the end of your driving test the examiner will give you feedback on your driving and successful candidates will receive a pass certificate.
With the new system, results of any recorded driving faults are emailed to the address used to book the test.
All new students that have a driving test booked are required to have a minimum of 10 Hours before the test – First lesson must be 4 weeks before test date.
