60 Minute Driving Lessons

60 minute driving lessons are offered by many driving schools, but do they benefit the student? for many years we have offered 60 minute driving lessons but find students take much longer to become driving test ready.

We find many students that have 1 hour driving lessons take on average over 52 weeks to get to test standard.

The main reason for this is that on a 1 hour driving lesson, by the time you have discussed the previous lesson and set a goal for the days lesson – you may not have enough time to get to a suitable practice location.

By spending time within the areas you may drive on your driving test, will boost your driving confidence on the day.

It is important that you and your driving instructor discuss which driving test centre you will be using for your driving test. Many driving instructors only use the 1 driving test centre in the area that they cover.

The main driving test centres used in Merseyside are Norris Green, Speke, St Helens, Southport, Wallasey, Upton, and Widnes.

Travel Time

As you can see from the images above, these are examples of where you may live and the test centre likely to be used.

Many are 25+ minutes just getting to the test centre, which does not allow for busier times of day and being stuck in traffic. Many driving instructors will purposefully waste lesson time sitting in traffic jams or roadworks.

Practice Time

Upon getting to the practice areas you then need time during your lesson to practice the topic that you have traveled there for. Only 5 or 10 minutes there is not sufficient practice time.

Ending 1 Hour lessons

From December 2020, 1 hour driving lessons will not be offered.

90, 100 & 120 minutes will be offered to students as these are the most used lesson amounts that students benefit the most from. With ample travel time and practice time during every lesson, you will find yourself progressing much more rapidly than your friends that are just doing 1 hour driving lesson.

Spending that little bit extra per lesson, you will see the benefit and the progression within our diary app.
